Why it works

Built for how chores actually go.

  • Three editions, one price

Use the App on your laptop, phone or tablet, keep the Google Sheet in your Drive, or open the Excel file. All three come with every purchase.

  • Every chore has its own value

Mowing the lawn is not worth the same as feeding the cat, so you set a dollar amount on each one. Chores that are simply expected are marked expected and never pay.

  • A screen for your child

Leave the App open on a family tablet and your child sees their chores, what they earned this week and their three jars. No way through to your settings or your ledger.

  • Save, spend and give

Every payday splits with the percentages you set per child, down to the cent. Add a savings goal and watch the bar fill, or pay a little interest on the save jar to show how saving grows.

  • Payday in one action

See what each child completed, what it totals and what goes into each jar, then settle it all at once. Changed your mind? Undo the whole payday.

  • A ledger that answers the question

Chore pay, bonuses, spending, moves between jars and interest, each with a running balance per jar. "What do I actually owe you" has a number.

Everything in Chores & Allowance

One tracker. Chores, money and the week.

  1. The App
    1

Today: what is left and what it is worth

Open the App and see what is still on the list, what each child has earned this week, what is waiting for payday and how many days until it lands.

    • Payday countdown
    • A card for each child
    • Earned this week vs last
    • Jars at a glance
  2. The App
    2

Chores: a value on every one

One row per chore with how often it comes round, how much effort it takes and what it pays. Drag a card to hand a chore to another child.

    • Your own dollar values
    • Expected chores pay nothing
    • Drag between children
    • Search and filters
  3. The App
    3

Payday: add it up and settle it

Every chore ticked off since the last payday, grouped by child, with the total and the three jar amounts. Settle it in one tap, or undo it.

    • One tap to settle
    • Undo a whole payday
    • Split to the cent
    • Payday history
  4. The App
    4

    Jars: save, spend and give

Three jars per child with the split you choose, a savings goal, and interest you can pay yourself on the save jar. The ledger below keeps every line with a running balance.

    • Goal progress
    • Interest you choose to pay
    • Record spending
    • Move between jars
  5. The App
    5

    A screen that is theirs

Big tap targets, their chores for today, what they earned this week and their three jars. No settings, no ledger, no other child's money.

    • Built for a tablet
    • Tap to tick off
    • Tap again to undo
    • Nothing else reachable
  6. Google Sheets and Excel
    6

    Google Sheets and Excel

The same tracker as a workbook: Today, Chores, Payday, Jars, Ledger, History and Settings. Yellow cells are where you type; the values, the split and the balances are formulas. The kid screen is an App feature and is not in the workbook.

    • Excel 2010 or later
    • No macros
    • Example and blank copies
    • Prints neatly

A few good answers

Questions, answered.

Delivery, devices, updates and your data. Still curious? We reply to every email.

Ask us a question
Does it hold or move real money?

No. Nothing in Darzen Chores & Allowance touches a card, a bank account or a payment of any kind, and it never asks for one. The jars are a record of what you owe your child, kept on your own device, and you hand over the cash or make the transfer yourself, however you already do it.

How do I get my files?

Right after checkout we email you a Darzen username and password. Sign in to your Darzen account to download the App and the Excel files, and to make your own copy of the Google Sheets edition.

Which edition should I use?

All three come with every purchase, so you do not have to choose. The App feels like software, works offline and has the kid screen; Google Sheets lives in your Google account; Excel is a file you keep.

Which version of Excel do I need?

Excel 2010 or later on Windows and Mac, or Excel for the web. The workbook has no macros.

Does the App need the internet?

Only once, to sign in with the login we email you. After that it opens from the file on your device and works offline.

Where is my data kept?

In the browser on your own device, never on our servers. The App keeps a first name and a list of chores for each child — no date of birth, no photo, no school and no address. Save a backup file in one click and restore it on any device or browser.

Can my child use it without seeing everything else?

Yes, in the App. The kid screen shows one child their chores for today, what they earned this week and their three jars, with no way through to your settings, your ledger or another child's money. The spreadsheet editions have no separate kid view, because a workbook cannot lock anyone out of its own tabs.

Does it work on my phone?

The App works in your phone's browser and the Google Sheets edition works in the Sheets app. Sign in on up to two devices.

How do updates work?

Updates are free. When a new version is ready, it appears in your Darzen account and the App tells you.

Can I get a refund?

See our refund policy, linked next to the price. Try the live demo first so you know exactly what you are getting.
