Plan the year. Print the records.
Darzen Homeschool Records keeps a week of lessons per child, a day log of hours by subject, and the year-end records you can hand to someone: an attendance summary, hours by subject, a progress report and a high-school transcript. Every required figure is yours to enter — the app does not guess at them.
- The App, Google Sheets and Excel in one purchase
- Hours and days counted against the figures you enter yourself
- Attendance summary, progress report and transcript that print
- One payment, free updates, no yearly fee

Why it works
Built for a year you have to account for.
-
Three editions, one price
Use the App on your laptop and phone, keep the Google Sheet in your Drive, or open the Excel file. All three come with every purchase, and none of them expire.
-
Your figures, not ours
Homeschool requirements differ from state to state and change over time. Required school days, required hours, the hours that make one credit and the grading scale are all fields you fill in from your own reading of your own state's rules. Nothing here is supplied, checked or guessed, and using this does not make a household compliant with anything.
-
Nothing quietly disappears
A lesson that was not finished moves to a Carried over list and stays there until it is ticked off or moved to a later day. Roll one forward, or roll the whole list into the next school day in one click.
-
Records that print at the end of it
An attendance summary by month, hours by subject, a progress report per child, and a high-school transcript with courses, credits, grades and an average. Each one fits a page and says plainly that it is a record the parent produced.
-
A scale you set yourself
Grades, their percent cutoffs and the grade points behind them are a table you edit. The transcript prints the scale it used and shows the arithmetic behind the average, so anyone reading it can check it.
-
Very little about your children
A first name, a grade label you choose, their subjects, the hours and lessons you log and the course grades you record. There is no field for a date of birth, an address, a photo or a medical note, and nowhere to put one. Everything stays on your own device.
Everything in Homeschool Records
One file. The whole school year.
-
The App1
This Week: the week in front of you
Subjects down the side, your school days across, one lesson to a cell. Tick lessons off as they are done, log the hours beside them, and see at a glance what is still waiting from last week.
- One child or the whole family
- Carried over, never dropped
- Prints a week per child
- Week as a calendar file
-
The App2
Hours: the day log and the year
Type the hours against each subject for the day and it counts as a school day. Days logged and hours logged are measured against the required day count and required hour count you entered — the app supplies neither and checks neither.
- Hours by subject
- Days and hours against your own figures
- Hours a week with an even-pace line
- Every day logged, at a glance
-
The App3
Records: four things that print
An attendance summary by month, hours by subject with a credit column, a progress report per child, and a transcript with courses, credits, grades and a grade point average. Print to paper or to PDF.
- Attendance summary
- Hours by subject
- Progress report
- High-school transcript
-
The App4
Children: subjects and progress
Each child has their own subjects, each with the curriculum or resource, the hours or lessons you planned, and how far through them you are. Drag a subject between Not started, In progress and Finished.
- Curriculum per subject
- Planned hours or lessons
- Progress rings
- Drag and drop, with undo
-
The App5
Portfolio: a list, not a store
Log a work sample, a project, a test or a milestone, which subject it belongs to and where the real thing lives — a binder, a box, a folder on your laptop, an album on your phone. The app keeps no files, scans or photos.
- Work samples and milestones
- Where each one is kept
- Search and filter by subject
- No uploads, no files
-
Google Sheets and Excel6
Google Sheets and Excel
The same records as a workbook: Dashboard, Children, Subjects, Day Log, Lessons, Records, Transcript and Portfolio. Yellow cells are where you type; everything else updates itself, and the Records and Transcript tabs each print on one page.
- Excel 2010 or later
- No macros
- Example and blank copies
- Prints neatly
Try it first
Click around. Then decide.
Open the real app with a made-up family of three and try everything. Nothing you type is saved.
Things to try
- Tick a lesson off, then roll the carried-over list into the next school day
- Log a few hours on the Hours tab and watch the days and the year move
- Open Records, pick the transcript, and change a grade's points in Settings
- Log a work sample and write down where the real thing is kept
Google Sheets and Excel share the same tabs and formulas. Shown with the example family; your copy starts blank, with the required days and hours empty.

A few good answers
Questions, answered.
Delivery, devices, updates and your data. Still curious? We reply to every email.
Ask us a questionHow do I get my files?
Right after checkout we email you a Darzen username and password. Sign in to your Darzen account to download the App and the Excel files, and to make your own copy of the Google Sheets edition.
Does it know what my state requires?
No, and it does not pretend to. Homeschool requirements differ from state to state and change over time. The required school days, the required hours, which subjects you teach, what records you keep and how long you keep them are all figures and choices you enter from your own reading of your own state's rules. Nothing is supplied for you, nothing is checked against any rule, and using this does not make a household compliant with anything.
Will a college accept the transcript?
That is not something we can promise, and nobody should. The transcript is a record you produce from your own records — it is not issued by a school and it is not accredited, so no college, employer or agency is obliged to accept it. Some ask for their own format, or for test scores and course descriptions alongside it. What the tool does is keep the courses, credits and grades straight, print the grading scale it used, and show the arithmetic behind the average.
Which edition should I use?
All three come with every purchase, so you do not have to choose. The App feels like software and works offline, Google Sheets lives in your Google account, and Excel is a file you keep.
Which version of Excel do I need?
Excel 2010 or later on Windows and Mac, or Excel for the web. The workbook has no macros.
Does the App need the internet?
Only once, to sign in with the login we email you. After that it opens from the file on your device and works offline.
What does it keep about my children?
A first name, a grade label you choose to type, their subjects, the hours and lessons you log, where each work sample is kept and the course grades you record. There is no field for a date of birth, an address, a photo, a phone number or a medical note, and nowhere to put one. The portfolio records where a sample lives; the app stores no files, scans or photos. Everything is saved in the browser on your own device, or in the spreadsheet file you keep — nothing is sent to us, and the tool connects to no school, district or state system.
Does it work on my phone?
The App works in your phone's browser and the Google Sheets edition works in the Sheets app. Sign in on up to two devices.
How do updates work?
Updates are free. When a new version is ready, it appears in your Darzen account and the App tells you.
Can I get a refund?
See our refund policy, linked next to the price. Try the live demo first so you know exactly what you are getting.
One app. One Google Sheet. One Excel workbook.
